Download description pdf

This is a film from the Douthwaite Collection featuring a family holiday in Wales.

(B&W) The film begins with a train, which is being pulled by a steam engine, arriving at Portmeirion Railway Station.  Then there is a large country house, and they do a tour of Portmeirion village.  George Douthwaite walks past the camera in a blazer with a badge on it.  Rosalie Douthwaite walks up some narrow steps.  They go to the Talyllyn Railway where the Talyllyn steam engine pulls a train of tourists on the small gauge railway.  The engine drivers take a rest.

There is a busy town street, and George emerges form a Jaguar Mark VI.  They look at a coastal view.

(Col.) A group of girl majorettes, with ages from very young to teenage, gather and parades along the coastal road.  There is a pleasure boat and an outdoor concert stage, the castle ruins, and they tour other parts of the town.   They take a ride on the Talyllyn Railway, filming the journey from on board the train, arriving at Devils Bridge.   Two small boys stand on the engine.  They climb up to the waterfalls, and film the trip back.  They visit another village and Harlwech Castle.
