PRINCESS MARGARET VISITS HORNSEA POTTERY (1976) film no: 4082

This film shows the visit of Princess Margaret to the Hornsea Pottery Company. The film includes footage of children in the play area and a tour of the factory with the Princess during which she observes many of the production processes at work.

The film opens with a sign for the various areas of the centre: a picnic area, kiddie cars, garden centre, factory tour and putting green. On to the play area where children are on a rotating spherical frame, then a rotating wooden wheel and a pony ride. Harry Armstrong, the Works Manager, gets his jacket form his Mercedes parked in front of the factory offices and a small crowd awaits the arrival of Princess Margaret, who arrives to be greeted by management and then escorted around the grounds. The Princess is taken on a tour of the factory with Harry Armstrong. She is shown teapots and plates being made. A sign shows the 90 foot tunnel kiln, which a workman loads up with pots on a trolley. The Princess meets some women preparing cups which are then sprayed, and then watches an ashtray being delicately decorated on a hand wheel. Cups are automatically immersed for glazing. Coffee pots are printed on. The Princess comes outside to be met again by a small crowd of onlookers. The film then switches to show Harry Armstrong in his office looking at a book signed Margaret, May 22, 1976, and the commemorative mugs depicting the War of the Roses, to be presented to Princess Margaret.
