CRAFTSMAN OF KILBURN

Made by Betty and Cyril Ramsden, this film shows the workshop and products of 'Mousey Thompson- the Craftsman of Kilburn.'  He was a famous furniture maker from North Yorkshire who owned a small business where many apprentices and craftsmen produced his designs using traditional carpentry methods.  All his furniture had his personal signature of a mouse being carved on it.

This is a documentary made by Betty and Cyril Ramsden which chronicles the places, activities, and life around waterways in the Humber region.  The film includes lengthy intertitles that explain some of the important facts about the areas in which they filmed.

OPENING OF THE SERBIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH

Made by members of the Halifax Cine Club, this film documents the opening of the Serbian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity in 1954.  It includes footage of King Peter II of Yugoslavia as well as both interior and exterior footage of the church. 

SHEFFIELD PEACE MARCH

Made for the Sheffield and District Workers Film Society by Brian Pickersgill, this film documents anti-war protest marches through the streets of Sheffield to Endcliffe Park in 1936.  The film concentrates on the Women’s, Youth, and May Day demonstrations held that week.

WINTER WONDERLAND FANTASY

This is a whimsical short film which uses stop motion animation to create a winter wonderland fantasy using miniature figurines on a snowy model landscape.  The famous Christmas song, Winter Wonderland, accompanies the film. 

ANTI NF PROTEST IN BRADFORD

Made by a member of the Humberside Police, this film documents a peaceful protest of the National Front by members of the Bradford community.  It includes footage of different groups present on the day such as the Anti Nazi League as well as the political meeting at a local school. 

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH PART- PARK HILL SLUMS 1-5

The Park District was the first redevelopment scheme undertaken by Sheffield City Council after World War II, and it was selected because it contained some of the oldest outstanding slum clearance orders.  Most of the area was cleared in the 1950s and was to be replaced by the new Park Hill Flats completed in 1959.  The film shows some of the housing conditions in the Park Hill area of Sheffield before large scale slum clearance.  It is made up of five reels, and some of the footage is repeated in the different reels. 

PARK HILL HOUSING PROJECT

Park Hill was Sheffield City Council’s first redevelopment scheme after the War.  Work began on the site in April 1957, and it was formally opened by Hugh Gaitskell on 16th June, 1961.  The film shows the Park Hill Flats in Sheffield shortly after the completion of their construction as well as the first stage in the development of Hyde Park Flats.

PERSONALITIES IN HOVINGHAM VILLAGE

This film features many of the residents of Hovingham village in North Yorkshire.  The filmmaker has used intertitles throughout to introduce the people he has filmed.  Also included are scenes from around the village throughout the seasons.
