During the Second World War, women were called upon to aid in the war effort.  This film contains unique footage of women workers in a munitions factory during World War II and highlights the industrial process of making the 84 Pounder Shell.

During the Second World War, the village of Chapeltown, located near Sheffield, was home to an anti-aircraft gun site.  This film documents some of the work of the Women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service at the site and includes exercises and training with the anti-aircraft gun.

This is a unique film which shows the dangers of drink driving through a short story shot in a 'film noir' style.  It tells the story of a boy and girl who drive off to the country from a jazz club whilst under the influence of alcohol. The film was made by BV Edgar, director of a small cine society based out of Stocksbridge, near Sheffield

IT’S A MAD, MAD WORLD

A comical fiction film by a local York filmmaker Patrick Olsen, this film features two characters dressed in eighteenth century clothes: a cellist and, presumably, his servant.  The film stars a young David Bradley, now a famous actor of stage and screen, in an early role as well as fellow York actor Tony Akrill. 

KING GEORGE AND QUEEN VISIT HULL

This E.F. Symmons film documents the visit of King George V and Queen Elizabeth to Kingston-upon- Hull in August 1941.  All in black and white, it contains some superb footage of the damage to Hull’s buildings caused by the Luftwaffe, many close-up shots of the visiting Royals, and depicts the amazing resilience of the people of Hull even in the face of the destruction of their homes and communities.
